- Description
- Amazon RIVR is a robotics company pioneering Physical AI through real-world doorstep delivery. Founded in 2024 as an ETH Zurich spin-off, RIVR develops wheeled-legged robots designed to operate in complex, unstructured environments. Following acquisition by Amazon in March 2026, we're building the next generation of safe, reliable autonomous robots for last-mile delivery. **The Role:** As a Hardware Interface Software Engineer, you will be the vital link between high-level autonomy stack and physical hardware. Your mission is to build robust, low-latency software bridges that translate AI-driven intent into physical action. **Key Responsibilities:** - Design and implement software interfaces decoupling high-level autonomy from specific hardware implementations - Write and maintain high-performance drivers for sensors and actuators - Implement and optimize communication protocols (CAN, Ethernet, SPI) for minimal latency and maximum reliability - Perform system identification of actuator characteristics and optimize control loops - Conduct lab testing and debugging at software-hardware boundary - Develop software-level safety monitors and emergency-stop logic - Improve Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) testing pipelines - Create and maintain documentation and best practices **Requirements:** - Bachelor's degree or higher in Robotics, Control, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field - Minimum 3 years industry experience (or PhD equivalent) in software-hardware interface - Experience deploying and testing software on hardware platforms - Modern C++ for production-level, performance-critical systems - Python for rapid algorithm development and data analysis - ROS/ROS2 (Robot Operating System) expertise as robotics middleware - Strong Linux understanding (system configuration, kernel drivers, network stack) - Good understanding of control theory for robotic actuators - Familiarity with embedded components and hardware datasheets **Bonus Points:** - PhD or Master's in Robotic Control, Real-Time Systems, or Mechatronics - Experience with legged or hybrid wheel-legged systems - Hardware interface frameworks in ROS2 (ros2_control) - Functional safety standards for autonomous vehicles or industrial robots **What We Offer:** - Work on cutting-edge robotics and Physical AI - Collaborate with talented team on real-world delivery robots - On-site presence required in Zurich office
